True Memorial Baptist church is named in honor of its first pastor, the Rev. Ezekiel True, who died while the church was being constructed. Completed in 1883, this former building was completely destroyed by fire on March 13, 1961.
After the fire, God’s people immediately claimed as theirs Nehemiah’s statement of trust: “The God of heaven will prosper us; therefore, we His servants will arise and build.” The present House of God was formally dedicated on September 16, 1962.
2021 marks our 150th year as part of the Rochester community!
